Hippophae rhamnoides is a deciduous shrub of the genus Hippophae of the family Elaeagnaceae.It is widely used in desert greening, mainly distributed in North China, Northwest, Southwest and other places, such as Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other provinces.Its roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits are rich in nutrients and bioactive substances.Especially the fruit contains protein, fat, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, carbohydrates and other nutrients, its taste is sweet and sour, fleshy and juicy.
Branches: deciduous shrubs or trees, plant height is generally 1.5 meters, but in the mountains and valleys and other places up to more than 10 meters.More thorns on the branches, stout, terminal or lateral.The color of young branches is brown-green, and the color of old branches is gray-black.
Leaves: usually simple, subopposite.The leaves are narrowly lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, blunt at both ends, rounded at the base and wider at the base.The leaves are green above and silvery white or pale white below.
Fruit: The fruit is approximately spherical in shape, 4-6cm in diameter, and orange-yellow or orange-red in color.Fruiting pedicels ca. 1-2.5 mm in length.Seeds are small, broadly elliptic to ovoid in shape, about 3-4.2 mm in length, black or purple-black in color, and glossy.
Flowering and fruiting period: Flowering period is from April to May and fruiting period is from September to October.
