The grafting time of plum blossom is usually in summer or autumn, mostly in July and August in summer, and in September and October in autumn. At this time, the temperature is higher, rootstock and scion are easier to heal in all, if the temperature is too low, it will affect its survival. It should be noted that grafting generally avoids the rainy season, because too much rain is not conducive to plant recovery.
1. Bud grafting: Plum blossoms are usually grafted with buds in the north.Lecting 1-2 years old strong branches, and using the full axillary buds at the middle and upper parts of the branches as scions.First make a transverse cut about 0.5 cm above the axillary bud to the depth of the xylem, then make a vertical cut from the left and right sides of the usual length, cut it into a shield shape, and flatten the back to remove the xylem.Cut a T-shaped incision in the root stock 5-6 cm high, insert the scion into it, and tie it with plastic strips.
2. Cleft grafting: The cleft grafting method is relatively simple.Split the top of the stock down the middle to a depth of 2-3 cm.Choose a healthy plum branch with buds on it, and the diameter is generally smaller than that of the rootstock.Cut its bottom into a wedge shape, then insert it into the incision of the rootstock, wrap it with plastic film, and avoid the entry of air and moisture.
3. Ventral grafting: The way of ventral grafting is similar to bud grafting. The epidermis of the rootstock is obliquely cut to, but not cut off. The depth is about 2-3 cm.Choose the right branch, generally not too long, the bottom is also cut into a wedge, inserted into the incision of the rootstock, to ensure that its cambium fit, and then wrapped with plastic film.
There are many rootstocks that can be chosen for grafting plum blossoms. In addition to this rootstock, peach, mountain peach, apricot, plum and other trees are mostly used as rootstocks, which have good affinity.Among them, the survival rate of peach grafting is high, but the life span is short, while the growth of apricot grafting is slow, but the life span is long.
