The tolerance of rose to low temperature is relatively strong. In general, if the temperature in winter is not lower than - 7 ℃, rose flowers can survive the winter safely. Specifically, in the south of China, roses can also be directly cultivated outdoors in winter, and will not be frozen; in the north, if roses are planted in the open, there is no problem in directly overwintering, but if roses are potted and overwintering in the open, certain thermal insulation measures are required, while roses cultivated indoors do not need extra thermal insulation. It should be noted that, no matter in the South or the north, the seedlings of rose need better cold protection measures in winter for maintenance. The seedlings are relatively weak in resistance and are easy to be frostbitten or even frozen to death.
Before the arrival of winter cold, the Chinese rose should be pruned once. After pruning, the plant should be wrapped with thick cotton padded quilt and other materials. According to the actual temperature, several layers can be wrapped, and then a plastic film can be wrapped outside, and then some hay can be covered on it. It should be noted that if the rose is planted in the open field, the ground of the root should be covered with several layers to avoid the ground from freezing and damaging the root system of the rose; if the rose is planted in a pot, it should be wrapped and covered with a flowerpot to keep warm.
Although the roses in the North need not worry about being frozen to death, they are more likely to die, so we need to pay special attention to the indoor maintenance in winter. In the north, there is heating in winter. Many people move the rose indoors for the winter, but the temperature is relatively high, the sunshine is not enough, and the amount of water is too much, which will easily lead to the death of the rose. This is because the rose will start to grow when the temperature is higher than 5 ℃, and the growth speed will accelerate when the temperature is higher than 13 ℃. However, the growth of the rose needs enough sunlight to produce nutrients. In winter, the indoor rose keeps growing but lacks sunshine, which is easy to cause malnutrition or even death. Therefore, if the winter is in the indoor culture of rose, we should pay attention to reduce watering, and ensure sufficient sunlight, often ventilation, reasonable maintenance.
