The leaves are fan-shaped to irregular broad ovate, with 2-3 palmately branched to bird foot shaped bifurcated branches; the central pinnae are the largest and the small ones have short stalks. Adiantum fanifolia likes sunny environment and is suitable for growing in acid red and loess soil.
It is also called Adiantum setosum. Its leaves are linear lanceolate, about 10-25 cm long, and its top is elongated into flagellate shape, rooting on the ground. Adiantum verbenatum is found under the forest or in the crevices of valleys at an altitude of 100-1200m.
Leaves broadly triangular, pinnately divided, lobes rhombic or oblong. Adiantum cuneatum is usually found on limestone beside stream or on limestone cave bottom and dripping rock wall, with an altitude of 100-2800m.
Adiantum lotus is a rare species. Because of the destruction of human production to nature, the environment on which it depends no longer exists. Because the Adiantum lotus leaf is a better medicine, over mining, making it in the edge of extinction, less cultivation.
