The stem is erect, with many branches, smooth stem or hairy. Leaves single leaf opposite, growing about 10 cm, bipinnately divided, lobes narrow linear, entire leaf margin toothless.
Gesanghua is 1 to 2 meters high, and its stem is glabrous or slightly pubescent. The leaves are pinnately divided twice, and the lobes are linear or filiform.
The flower heads are terminal or axillary, with 5 to 8 cm long stems, 2 layers of involucres, ligulate flowers. The front of the petals is toothed, with 8 petals, white, crimson and pink. The tubular flowers in the central part of the disk are yellow.
Gesang flower head, growing alone on the top of branches, 3 to 6 cm in diameter, peduncle 6 to 18 cm long. The tongue flower is purplish red, white or pink, the tongue is oval, 2 to 3 cm long, 1.2 to 1.8 cm wide, the tubular flower is yellow, 6 to 8 mm long.
