The leaves of Lycium barbarum are leathery, oblong or ovate in shape, 4-9cm long and 2-4cm wide. There are three sharp and hard teeth at the tip. The teeth in the middle are often retroflexed. The base is round or incised. There are teeth on both sides. The color of the leaves is dark green, very shiny. The back is light green, lusterless and hairless on both sides.
The flower color of Gougu is light yellow. Male flowers: the pedicel grows up to 5-6 mm, with 1-2 broad triangular bracteoles at the base, calyx is discoid, membranous lobes, wide triangle, petal is oblong ovate, anther is oblong ovate, ovary is nearly spherical after degeneration. Female flower: the pedicel grows about 8-9 mm, the base has 2 small broad triangular bracteoles, calyx and petal are similar to male flower, the anther is oval arrow shaped after abortion, ovary is oval ovate.
The fruit is globose, about 8-10 mm in diameter. The color is bright red when ripening, and the fruit period is from October to December.
