From the first half of March to the first half of April, choose the weather with mild climate and rainy days.
Magnolia, Magnolia and Magnolia officinalis can be used as rootstock seedlings for grafting Magnolia.
The branches of Magnolia grandiflora can be used as scions in the previous year or in the same year, which are relatively thick and full in bud. It is better to pick and join as you pick. The scion only needs to leave a little petiole and 2-3 buds after cutting off the leaves. To prevent the scion from drying, cover the scion with a wet towel or straw.
When grafting, cut the rootstock from a height of 4-5cm from the rhizome, and cut it into an angle on the cutting mouth. Use the grafting knife to cut the lower part of the scion mouth into a 45 degree angle. After cutting the rootstock and scion, insert the scion into the cutting part of the rootstock, and bind the scion and rootstock with plastic cloth or bamboo strip. After grafting, cover well with fine soil and press the lower part tightly.
1. After grafting for 15 days, check whether it survives. If the scion withers and the cortex shrinks, it indicates that the scion has died, so it is necessary to make up the scion as soon as possible. If the scion is fresh and the cortex is full of water, it indicates that the scion has survived.
2. The grafting wound heals in about 20-25 days. When the sprout grows to 2-3 leaves, weed in time to remove the mother seedling and avoid collision with the scion. In the later stage, we should often weed, fertilize and water, spray Bordeaux solution to prevent and control diseases and insect pests.
3. Remove the plastic strip and bag in time after the scion sprouts.
