Basin soil: Gardenia likes acid soil with pH of 5-6. Fertilization: once a week in growth period, once or twice in budding period, stop fertilization when temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer and 15 ℃ in autumn. Watering: keep basin soil moist and spray at night to soaked the leaves. Light: it should be sufficient. Besides the noon in July and August, it can be maintained in the sun.

I. basin soil

Gardenia likes acid soil, the suitable pH value is 5 to 6, and the suitable soil should be prepared before planting. If the pH of the soil is not suitable, the maintenance is very troublesome.

Generally, saprophytic soil, peat soil and half of garden soil are selected as cultivation soil, instead of coal cinder or Gardenia special soil, which is convenient and practical.

II. Fertilization

Gardenia likes fertilizer. When planting, add the rotten cake fertilizer to the soil as the base fertilizer.

In the growing season, cake fertilizer and ferrous sulfate are used for retting to make fertilizer and water once a week. It can also be used as full nutrition organic liquid fertilizer.

At budding stage, applying fertilizer 1-2 times and water solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate can make flowers plump and fragrant.

If the temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer and 15 ℃ in autumn, stop applying fertilizer.

Three. Watering

Gardenia likes humid environment. 4~9 month growth period, keep basin soil moist, watering see dry to see wet, evening spray can leaf wet, in order to maintain humidity. If the plants grow too fast, do not water them at night. Water them when the sun comes out in the morning.

In the northern alkali water area, when watering, place the tap water for a day. For 3-5 days, water a little citric acid solution to keep the leaves green.

IV. illumination

The growth of Gardenia needs sufficient sunshine. If it is kept in the shade for a long time, the flower branches are thin and slender. During the maintenance, except for the need of shade at noon in July and August and hibernation in winter, other time can be maintained in the sun.

V. precautions

(1) pest control. Gardenia is more prone to yellow disease, leaf spot disease and scale insects, especially in the summer of flowering, the weather is hot and humid, fungal infection induced diseases and insect pests. After discovery, spray the medicine in time to disinfect and isolate with other plants to avoid infection.

(2) soil acidification. Gardenias like fat, but afraid of thick fat. During the growing period, the water of rotten cake fertilizer should be applied once every half a month, and the concentration should be low, so as to avoid the influence of burning roots on the growth of flower buds. At the same time, attention should be paid to acidifying the soil in time. Most of the water in the home is alkaline, long-term watering will lead to soil alkalization, timely watering ferrous sulfate solution, change the pH of the soil, can promote the growth of plants.

(3) dormancy in winter. Although gardenias are hardy to cold, the roots of gardenias in pot will be damaged after winter, and the recovery is slow in spring. But in the room with heating, the temperature is higher, the light is insufficient, the plant growth slows down, and the next year flowers later. The best way is to put the potted plant in 5 ℃ environment, make it hibernate, or wrap the flowerpot with heat preservation material, and put it outside in the sunny and leeward place for winter.

(4) trim properly. When the main stem of Gardenia grows to 20cm, the top of Gardenia will be removed, leaving 3-4 branches to promote branches. After flowering every year, prune the weak branches and diseased branches lightly. But Gardenia can not be cut short in spring, otherwise it is difficult to bloom in that year. (recommended by Xiaobian: how to trim Gardenia?)

(5) timely change basin soil. Gardenia's vitality is exuberant, the seedlings grow from a few centimeters to dozens of centimeters, so we need to change pots according to the size of the plants. When the stem length of the plant is 2-3 times of the diameter of the flowerpot, it is necessary to change the flowerpot. When changing the basin, trim the old root in time, change half of the soil, water and put it in the half shade for a week, grow new buds and move it to the sun.
