The material of Osmanthus potted landscape mainly comes from sowing, cutting, layering, grafting, branch propagation and seedling raising, and the tassel stump which has been extracted from the mountain for many years.
The deep square basin or round basin is suitable for the container. The best texture of the basin is the purple pottery basin or glazed pottery basin. The color of purple or ochre is better. It can be contrasted with the color of flowers and leaves to increase its ornamental effect.
Osmanthus is fond of fertilizer. It is suitable to use sandy loam which is fertile, loose and well drained. The culture soil of potted Sweet osmanthus is usually made up of garden soil, manure and river sand. It also needs to be disinfected to reduce pests and diseases. Generally, it is carried out in early spring or autumn. Before the basin is put on, a layer of river sand or vermiculite is padded on the bottom of the basin to play the role of ventilation and drainage, and a layer of peat soil or fine mud about 3cm thick is paved on the top. Then, put Sweet osmanthus seedlings with soil ball at the root into the basin, back up to cultivate the soil and press it with fingers. The depth of filling is close to the basin mouth, and the soil surface should be 2,3cm lower than the basin mouth. After the basin to water, and placed in the shade place for about 10 days, so that its "service basin", gradually resume growth.
Osmanthus is resistant to trimming and has strong sprouting power. Generally, after 1 or 2 years of potting, it can be processed and shaped after flowering or rainy season, mainly by combination of climbing and trimming. The trunk can be climbed into inclined dry or curved trunk shape; the higher trunk can be cut short properly to make new branches sprout at the base to avoid hollowness at the lower part, and the upper branches and dense branches can be cut off again, so as to stimulate the new branches at the lower part of the trunk, so as to achieve the balance between the upper and the lower parts, keep the tree shape neat and the flowers and leaves luxuriant.
The bonsai shape of Sweet osmanthus is suitable to be curved, inclined or elegant. The tree is inclined, with dense branches and leaves, simple and natural, which is most appreciated. When flowering, the fragrance overflows, refreshing.
