Many people keep carnations, but they don't know how to prune them. In fact, it needs to be trimmed in different ways according to the time. For example, in its growth period, in order to remove the top advantage and make it grow more luxuriant, we can choose to top it; in the pregnancy period, we can cut some buds to improve the quality of flowers; after flowering, we can cut off the stems for it to help it grow better.

1. Topping

Most plants have advantages at the top. The buds at the top will grow, which will restrict the growth of lateral buds. Therefore, in order to make the plants more prosperous and increase the number of flowers, we will choose to remove the top. Carnation also belongs to this kind of plant. The first topping is to choose when the plant grows 8 to 9 pairs of leaves. This time, only 4 to 6 pairs of leaves need to be left. The second topping is to choose when the plant's lateral branches grow more than 4 pairs of leaves. This time, only 3 to 4 pairs of leaves need to be left for each lateral branch. Finally, the whole plant has 12 to 15 lateral branches.

2. Prune when pregnant

When the plant grows flower, we only need to keep the front flower of each lateral branch, and all the others can be removed. In this way, we can guarantee the blooming color and shape of flowers, improve the quality of flowers and increase their ornamental value.

3. Trimming after flower

Cut off the pedicel immediately after the first flowering and withering of the plant. In this way, the plant will continue to bloom and reduce the loss of nutrients.

If you are a novice, don't let your love run rampant and you can't bear to prune. The growth of this plant is stronger, so it can grow back slowly even if the pruning is wrong. But if not pruned in time, the plant may be elongated, there will be neither dense plant type nor normal flowering, resulting in no ornamental effect.
