Taro, like high temperature, wet and half shade environment, not cold resistant. The growth period is from June to October, and the suitable temperature is 21-27 ℃; the tuber dormancy period is from October to next June, and the suitable temperature is 18-24 ℃. When the growth period is lower than 18 ℃, the growth of leaves is not straight, and the germination of new leaves is difficult. When the temperature is higher than 30 ℃, the new leaves germinate quickly, the leaves are soft and thin, and the leaf viewing period is shortened. If the temperature of tuber is lower than 15 ℃, the tuber is easy to rot. The soil should be fertile, loose and well drained rotten leaf soil or peat soil. Too wet or dry soil is harmful to the growth of taro leaves, and the tuber is prone to rot.
The flower leaf taro likes to scatter light, and should not be too strong. It is easy to burn in the sun. The leaf color is fuzzy, the vein is dim, and the ornamental is poor. If the light is not enough, the color spots of the leaves become dark, and the leaves are too long and weak. If the shade time is too long, the leaves are tender, the petioles are elongated, the leaves are not fresh, and the petioles are easy to break.
The leaves of taro are ovate triangle to heart ovate, like ears. The leaves are red, pink and white. Taro can increase air humidity. Absorb a certain amount of formaldehyde, sulfur dioxide and other harmful gases.
Hydroponics and maintenance of taro
1. It is only suitable for water culture in spring, summer and autumn or water culture in nutrient solution with lower concentration.
2. Spray water frequently on the leaf surface to make the leaf colorful.
3. The yellow old leaves should be cut off in time during the period of hydroponics. Do not pull them out forcibly, or the growth of roots and plants will be affected.
4. If root rot is found, it shall be cleaned up in time, replaced with water, cleaned or soaked with 0.05% - 0.1% potassium manganate solution for 10-20 minutes, then washed with water and then cultured with water.
5. The root system and tuber can be fixed with granular matrix to prevent lodging.
After water conservation, it can be placed in places with strong light, such as bookshelves, balconies, courtyards, etc., or on a short tea table or desktop.
