The growth of Gardenia needs sufficient sunshine. It can be cured in the sunshine at other times except for the shade at noon in summer and hibernation in winter. If we want to meet the needs of its growth, we need to guarantee 60% of the light in the whole day. Summer and autumn to prevent the sun exposure, so as to prevent the yellow withered leaves, affect the viewing.
Gardenia is a kind of acid loving flower. The suitable pH value is 4.8-6. If the soil is high in salt and alkali, the leaves of plants will turn yellow, affecting flowering. Therefore, we can not dig some soil to raise it. We can choose loose, well drained potted soil rich in organic matter. We can mix some rotten leaf soil, peat soil or retting sawdust plus half of the garden soil to make it up by ourselves. Special soil can also be purchased.
Gardenias need a concealed environment, in daily maintenance can see light. Just shade properly in the hot summer. 15-30 degrees is the best temperature for plant growth, and below 0 degrees is easy to frostbite. In the environment of about 20 degrees, it is the most easy to bloom, but the temperature changes too much, it is easy to fall buds, or do not bloom.
Gardenias like humid environment, the water and humidity requirements are also high. In spring, water is usually poured once every three days. In summer, water evaporates rapidly in hot weather, so it needs to be watered every day. When the temperature is high, spray water to the leaves of plants with a watering can. It can be poured once every two days in autumn. In winter, watering should be reduced to ensure once a month. Watering is permeable and easy to rot. In addition to normal watering, the leaves and the surrounding ground should be sprayed with clean water frequently, and the air humidity should be increased appropriately.
Gardenia is fond of fertilizer. During the growth period, the fertilizer needed is very strong. Every 10 days, the rotten human manure or cake fertilizer should be applied. When planting, the rotted cake fertilizer should be added to the soil as the base fertilizer. If the temperature is above 35 ℃ in summer and 15 ℃ in autumn, stop applying fertilizer. Do not use concentrated or raw fertilizer. Do not apply fertilizer during hibernation. Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer will result in thick branches, large leaves, thick green and no flowering. In the absence of P and K fertilizer, there will also be no flowering or bud withering and falling off.
Gardenias need to be pruned twice a year, once from May to July, and once in December in winter. These two periods do the least damage to it. When the trunk is 20cm long, cut off the top and leave 3-4 branches to promote branches. After flowering every year, trim gently, and cut off the weak branches and diseased branches. But do not cut the top of branches in spring, otherwise it will be difficult to bloom in that year.
