Potted cycads are suitable for tile basin and shallow basin. It is better not to use deep basin. The advantages of using shallow basin are: on the one hand, it highlights the stem of cycads, causing a high visual effect; on the other hand, the shallow basin contains less soil, which can inhibit the excessive growth of leaves. Commonly used potted cycads containers are tile pots, pottery pots, plastic pots, wooden barrels, etc.
Potted cycads have higher requirements on soil, which can be made by mixing peat soil or humus soil with appropriate amount of river sand and a small amount of bone meal, or by mixing rotten leaf soil, vegetable garden soil and pond mud with appropriate amount of rotten organic fertilizer. The suitable pH value is about 5-6.5. If the basin soil is peracid, it can be adjusted by adding appropriate lime powder or grass ash, otherwise, it can be added with appropriate sulfur powder, aluminum sulfate or ferrous sulfate. Before use, the potted soil should be disinfected. The specific measures include cooking the potted soil for 1-2 hours to disinfect, or spraying 40% formalin evenly and then piling up the mulch for at least two days.
First, take two pieces of broken tiles and place them in the shape of "in" on the drain hole of the container. It is better to place a layer of coarse stones at the bottom of the basin, with a thickness of about 3-5cm. It is better to control the reasonable depth of covering soil just over the root neck. After planting, sufficient root fixing water shall be poured in time, and it shall be placed in the shade for maintenance for 1-2 weeks, and a certain amount of light shall be given, and normal management can be carried out after 1 month.
Generally speaking, in the period of young seedling, the basin is changed once a year, in the period of middle seedling, the basin is changed once every 2-3 years, and in the period of big seedling, the basin is changed once every 4-5 years.
The work of changing pots of cycads is suitable in early spring, when the new leaves are not growing and the temperature is stable at about 15 ℃. In the process of basin changing, it is necessary to compact the soil around the plant. If it is a medium and large seedling, it is also necessary to remove decayed roots and part of the old soil, but it is necessary to avoid breaking the soil lump. After planting, the soil surface should be 3-5cm lower than the basin edge, so as to ensure the space for watering and root expansion.
