The cuttings of Lagerstroemia speciosa include hardwood cuttings and softwood cuttings. Hardwood cuttings are selected from late March to early April, and softwood cuttings are in the first and middle of June in summer. The cuttings shall be robust, fully lignified and free from pests and diseases.
In order to improve the survival rate of cuttings, 6 to 8 days before cutting, soak the cuttings in water, and remember to change water every day. When the incision showed obvious irregular tumor, cutting was carried out. The cuttings can be soaked in sugar water for 24 hours, which can significantly improve the survival rate. When cutting, soil shall be arranged and sufficient base fertilizer shall be applied to make the soil loose and water sufficient. First, use tools to open holes, insert cuttings along the holes, and then seal the holes firmly. The cutting depth is 2 /3 of the length of the cuttings, the plant spacing is 10cm, and the row spacing is 15cm. After the cuttings, water is poured and the roots are about one month long.
After cutting, cover the cutting box with plastic film and shade it with sunscreen. After rooting, the mulch was gradually removed in batches. After cutting, the cutting box should be kept moist, and watered with clear water at the seedling stage to penetrate the cutting box. Generally, water should be applied once every 3 to 5 days. After cutting for 40 days, fertilizer can be applied.
