A very obvious difference between goldfish grass and violet is that the whole plant of violet is covered with dense and soft gray short hair, while goldfish grass does not. In addition, goldfish grass blooms a month earlier than violet.

1. Flower difference

Goldfish grass: under normal circumstances, its flowering period is from March to June, the length of petals is about 3cm to 15cm, and the length of pedicels is about 5mm to 7mm.

Violet: its flowering period is from April to may, which is one month later than that of goldfish grass. The length of petal is about 12 mm, and the length of pedicel is about 1.5 mm. This is very different from that of goldfish grass. It is much smaller than that of goldfish grass. So if they are all in the flowering period, it is easy to distinguish these two kinds of plants

2. Difference between branches and stems

Goldfish grass: its branches are generally at the junction of the stem and the root, and the base of the stem sometimes presents lignification.

Violet: it has branches all over the whole plant, unlike goldfish grass, and all branches will be lignified at the base.

3. Height difference

Goldfish grass can grow up to 80 cm high, while violet can only grow up to 60 cm high.

4. Leaf difference

Goldfish grass: its leaf length is between 2cm and 6cm, the edge is flat, most of the leaves are lanceolate or oblong lanceolate;.

Violet: the total length of its leaves and petioles is about 6cm to 14cm, and the width of its leaves is between 1.2cm to 2.5cm, which is much larger than that of goldfish grass. Moreover, its leaves are spoon shaped or oblong to oblanceolate, which is quite different from that of goldfish grass. Its edges are both flat and microwave shaped, unlike that of goldfish grass, which are all flat.
