We all know that both of these plants can be used as medicinal materials, but we may be more familiar with the second one. Whether as a plant or as a medicinal material, they are somewhat similar. But there must be a difference between them. So where are the differences between the two?

1. Species and categories

This can be said to be the most fundamental difference between them. Species and genera are the basic criteria for us to distinguish different plants. For the first plant, it belongs to Scrophulariaceae and Coptis, while for the second plant, it belongs to Ranunculaceae and Coptis. The first plant is also called "Hulian" and "secluded dew". The second plant is called "Weilian" and "Chuanlian". They are different in many ways because of their different species.

2. Distribution area

First of all, let's talk about the difference of their distribution altitude. The former is mainly distributed in the range of 3600-4400 meters above sea level, which is longer than that of rocks or heaps in the alpine area; the latter is much lower than that of the former, mainly in the range of 1500-2300 meters, mostly in dense forests. Another is the difference of their distribution. The first kind of plants are especially distributed in India and Indonesia. The second kind of plants are widely distributed in China, mainly in Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan and other provinces.

3. Medical value

What we are talking about here is not that their value is big or small, but that their main efficacy is different. For example, the first plant is mainly used to relieve deficiency heat, the second plant is used to relieve stomach fire, clear heart fire, and can be used to detoxify

Plant

4. Appearance

The main difference between them is the leaves. The former has spoon shaped leaves, while the latter has egg shaped triangular leaves.

5. Flowering and fruiting

The first one is in June and the fruit is in July. The second one is in February to March and bears fruit in April to June.
