The leaves of Magnolia are oval or obovate in shape, about 8-18 cm long and 3-10 cm wide. The apex is sharp or acuminate, and the base gradually narrows down the petiole until the stipule mark. It has dark green on the top, sparse pubescence on the young, grey green on the bottom and pubescence along the veins.
The leaves of Magnolia grandiflora are oval or long conical oval in shape, slightly wider than the former, about 10-20cm long and 4-7cm wide, with blunt apex and wedge-shaped base. The leaves are dark green, glossy, glabrous when young, and short fluffy when growing up.
