The leaves are narrow strip lanceolate, 30-80cm long and 1-2.5cm wide, with narrow sheath like base, overlapping or stem reporting, and serrate at the edge and back midvein. The leaves of Ophiopogon japonicus are smaller, about 25-60 cm in length and 4-6 mm in width, with blunt or acute apex, brown leaf sheath at the base and serrated edge.
It is a panicle that usually grows on the top of the lateral branches. The pedicels are usually slightly curved, the bracts are small, and the perianth is in the shape of a strip lanceolate. The color is green white or light yellow, then to cyan purple. The flowers of Ophiopogon japonicus are usually 3-5 clusters growing in the axils of bracts. The perianth is oblong or oblong lanceolate and the color is lilac or light blue.
