Clematis is very sensitive to water. If it is watered too much, it will flood the root easily, but the lack of water is not good for its growth. In winter, the amount of water should be controlled to keep the substrate moist, but there should be no ponding. You can insert your fingers into the soil about 4-5cm. If you feel wet, you don't need to water.
1. Light: the growth of Clematis is inseparable from sufficient light. Especially in winter, the sun is soft and won't burn the plants. It can be put in the sun all day long, with no less than 6 hours of light per day
2. Temperature: Clematis has strong cold resistance, but some varieties are afraid of low temperature. Among them, evergreen and F series are easy to be frostbitten in winter. You can put them in a warm place or put plastic bags on the top to keep warm.
3. Fertilization: Clematis can also be fertilized in winter, but it is only suitable for adding base fertilizer. Excavate some of the surface soil, mix the organic fertilizer and bone meal, and then cover it with basin soil. This can continue to provide nutrition, help it grow and bloom.
4. Pruning: Clematis needs pruning at the end of winter. Large flowers should be cut lightly to keep the overall structure unchanged, and some branches that are too long should be cut off. For late blooms, cut off most of the branches and leaves to make them germinate again. Early flowers only prune the weak branches.
